It is important to have insight in the energy efficiency of a transformer during its life time. DNV GL’s Transformer Loss Calculation Tool calculates losses for different types of transformers, considering the CO2 emission. This gives you information about the most energy-efficient transformer during the life time. The evaluation of the most economic transformer will be done by the capitalized cost, payback time, and internal rate of return. This tool therefore gives you additional information about the no-load and load loss evaluation (A and B factor), in case they are not known in advance.
Our tool provides information about transformer losses when there are harmonics in the loading. The results (by summary table and graphs, see an example here) provide an overview of energy losses and capitalized costs for chosen transformer(s). They are store in docx-file, which can be opened by for example a Microsoft Office Word program.
Our tool is available for you to download, providing you the relevant information about transformer losses when there are harmonics in the loading. Note that this is an executable program, only can be used on Windows computers.
The tool including its own graphical user interface (GUI) is built in Python. In the tool itself you can select an English, Chinese, Spanish or Portuguese language version. The link to download the tool will be sent to you by email. The zip file with the transformer loss tool is approx. 60 MB.
